My Services
My name is Rick Stephens and I have been in the construction business for the past 25 years.
I used to build custom homes (Including my own), but these days my primary focus is on roofs,
although I also do a lot of siding, gutters, doors and windows.
My usual service area is Marion county and the surrounding towns,
including:
- Avon
- Brownsburg
- Danville
- Plainfield
- Carmel
- Geist
- Fishers
- Zionsville
- Fortville
- Greenfield
- Greenwood
- Franklin
Sometimes I go farther away from Indianapolis (Terre Haute, Columbus, etc) when there is a lot of roofing work
in an area because of storm damage.

I recently retired from the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Dealing With Insurance
Let's say your house experienced severe weather and looks like this photo.
After you're done cussing, crying or whatever,
here's what you do:
- Take a deep breath and try to relax
- Call me at (317) 696-3483. We'll schedule a time when I can stop by when you are there.
- I'll meet with you and inspect your building.
- Call your insurance agent and schedule a time for an adjuster to come out.
- Tell me when the adjuster will come and I will take it from there.
Once the adjuster approves your claim,
your insurance company will send you a check.
My work crew will then start the repair process.
Once they finish, I will look it over and make sure everything was done properly.
You don't pay me anything until the job is complete and you are satisfied with the work.
I'm on the preferred contractor list for Nationwide, State Farm, Liberty Mutual and Allstate.
Caution!
Beware of the "Storm chaser" contractors.
These guys show up whenever there is severe weather resulting in a lot of damaged buildings.
Some of them ask for a down payment and once they get it,
you'll never see them again.
Don't give money to any roofing contractor before they start the work.

My Work Crew
Probably the best reason to hire me is the crew that works for me.
Some cut-rate contractors just look for workers who are cheap.
I look for people who take pride in their work,
and pay them accordingly.
Beacuse of this, most have been with me for at least ten years, and some for 25 years.
I have guys available to do:
- Roofing
- Gutters
- Siding
- Doors
- Windows
- Painting

Roof Damaged by Hail
|
Does My Roof Need to Be Replaced?
If you are ever asking this question, please give me a call and I will inspect it for free.
In general, a shingled roof should last between 25 and 30 years as long as it doesn't experience
severe weather such as hail or high wind.
The first photo to the left shows a roof damaged by hail.
The dents have been circled by the insurance adjuster.
This roof will need to be replaced.
|
Roof Damaged by High Wind
|
Here the roof has been uplifted by high winds (either straight line or a tornado).
This roof will also need replacement.
|
Roof Damaged by Old Age
|
This photo shows shingles that are curling.
This is basically a sign of old age.
The shingles have outlasted their design life and should be replaced.
Please note that just if you have a leak,
it doesn't necessarily mean that the roof needs replacement.
The shingles may be fine, but there could be a problem with the metal flashing.
This is especially common after a winter with a lot of snow.
During the winter, the snow on your roof can melt to become water,
which then freezes when the temperature drops.
This cycle can be repeated many times when the temperatures fluctuate.
This cycling can deform the flashing and allow water to leak through.
